A Tale About Rugs...
For thousands of years rugs have been around. Most all were made from natural fibers such as cotton or wool and few have survived from the 16th - 17th centuries.
It is becoming more and more rare to find antique rugs in good condition, which makes them quite expensive and can be considered an exceptional discovery that brings about excitement and the desire to bring them home. We seek them out and make some incredible finds for you.
From the 5th century BC the Pazyrk rug was discovered in Mongolia in 1949 and survived, because it was frozen solid in a tomb for about 2,500 years.
The Great Emperor Akbar took a great liking to rugs and brought his very own Persian rug weavers to India, while he fought and won this country in the 16th century.
The weaving of these carpets flourished in areas with natural resources, such as domestic sheep for the wool or where there were cotton crops. Societies would not have been able to afford to weave these splendid works-of-art, without these natural resources readily available.
In the East handmade rugs continue to flourish as a trade, today. Story telling of some of the patterns and their meanings are beginning to be lost as we move forward in time. We try to keep up, but machines make many reproductions of our decorative Oriental Rugs, leaving behind a skill, as story and it's history.
A Tale About Decor4u...
We try to keep these treasured works and history alive, by seeking out hand-knotted rugs, tapestries & batiks from around the globe. It is our small contribution to these tiny villages and tribes to see if we can help them survive just a bit better by choosing to patronize their handmade wall art as one of our first priorities. One tapestry, batik & rug at a time.. helps to make these dreams come true.
As the artists continue to make these fabulous creations, their talented skills will be passed down to their children and hopefully there will be many more generations to come. The stories woven into the fabrics will survive, and we will pass them along to you.
As Decor4u.com grows, we plan to make additional contributions to the artists, from each & every purchase made from our online shop. We will help make their dreams come true, one unique handmade gift at a time.
