Famous Maharaja Embroidered Tapestry

From endless sands of the Thar Desert and turbulent waters of the Arabian Sea is a barren region of Sindh. With drought and scorching temperatures, this region is amazingly rich in heritage and indigenous to textile art. The female artisans continue to hand embroider these beautiful tapestry wall hangings, today.

Sari or saree or shari is the traditional female garment worn in India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and still worn in Pakistan by some women, today. A long strip of unstitched cloth can be draped in various styles, where most women choose to wrap the sari around the waist.

The vintage saris are stitched by hand in a patchwork pattern that shows off the eastern elegance in it's lavish embroidery of metallic and cotton threads. This style is characteristic of Sindhi art. This same pattern is made into these fine tapestries, which is named Maharaja, meaning high king or 'king of kings'.

This tapestry truly may be meant for royalty. It exhibits the beauty of authentic South Asian textile art.

Handmade from vintage saris - imperfections are common with the use of natural fibers. Each tapestry will vary slightly in color and pattern.
