He was one of the best-loved of all German Emperors. Gallant, brave and daring to rashness was the great Maximilian. He loved knightly games and sports and would frequently take part in tournaments, sometimes in disguise. After having defeated all the knights who came against him, he raised his visor and a thunderous applause would greet him from those who watched.

Maximilian's love for hunting was number one, and many stories are told of his daring and skill. Once he was attacked by a she-bear and he choked her with his bare hands. The Hunts of Maximilian Tapestry is a great work-of-art for home decor.

In the early 1500's hunting scenes were very popular with the aristocracy and this popularity led to the tapestries we see today romanticizng those long ago moments in history.
