There are six famous Flemish tapestries woven in Flanders from the late 1400's referred to as Tapestry Cycle. Tapestry, The Lady and the Unicorn is the theme of the series that make up these outstanding works-of-art. They are considered one of the greatest art works of the Middle Ages in Europe.

These exciting artistic works depict the six senses: sight, touch, taste, smell, hearing, and love. Each and every one of the tapestries shows a noble lady with the unicorn and the lion or monkey. They are created in the style of mille-fleurs, (thousand flowers).

In this tapestry the lady is seated, holding up a mirror, while the unicorn kneels on the ground, with his front legs in her lap, as he gazes at his reflection in the mirror. The lion holds up the pennant, which bear the arms of the great sponsor of this work, Jean Le Viste - a powerful nobleman in the court of King Charles VII.
