L'Offrande a Bacchus Tapestry

It is the French who use the expression, L'Offrande A Bacchus, meaning "Do you want to have a drink?" and that in turn is the 'offering to Bacchus'. Our English translation would be something like, "Would you like to have a glass of wine?

Bacchus, the well known Roman God of Wine, is equated with the Greek Dionysus. The Bacchanalia orgies in honor of Dionysus, were introduced in Rome around 200 BCE. These infamous celebrations got so out of hand that they were eventually forbidden by the Roman Senate, in an attempt to tame the wilder times in Rome.

Bacchus is a playfully charming character in our modern times interpretation, as well as a symbol of celebration and festive events. Makes a nice presentation on the wall.
