The Vision Tapestry

Medieval Tapestries

The final scene in the series of six panels of The Quest for The Holy Grail shows the three successful knights at the chapel in this Tapestry, The Vision. Kneeling in the doorway is Sir Galahad as he has his first vision of the grail. Sir Bors and then Sir Perceval follow close behind. The distance from the grail or cup that Jesus drank from with his disciples at The Last Supper, is symbolic of each knights purity.

The three angels that stand outside the chapel bare the symbols of Christ's passion. The Pentecostal Wind blows above the grail on the altar indicating the Holy Spirit is present.

This is the last panel in a series of six woven in France by the William Morris Company. it does make for a spiritual, as well as fabulous work-of-art for home decor.
