The hunters and noblemen chase after the clever and powerful unicorn in this famous and beautiful tapestry wall hanging. This work of art was commissioned by Anne of Brittany to celebrate her union with the King of France, Charles VIII.
John Rockefeller purchased this tapestry from the French La Rochefaucauld family who owned it for many centuries for a notable $1 million dollars. A large sum in 1922, when this purchase was made.
This famous seven-part series The Hunt of the Unicorn Tapestry was donated to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City by Rockefeller in 1937 and remains there to this day.
